The US Military Strapped Pigs in Body Armor and Blew Them Up

Military 'Researchers' Strapped Pigs in Body Armor and Blew Them Up, All in the Name of Science

Posted by Liliana Segura, AlterNet at 12:55 PM on April 8, 2009.

The 'study' was conducted last year in an undisclosed location, with the supposed goal of linking bomb blasts and brain injuries.
As long as we're discussing the military budget, let's talk about this: Pentagon researchers spent nearly $10 million dollars last year strapping pigs in body armor and blowing them up.

No, really; USA Today reports:

"During an 11-month period of research ending in December, scientists wrapped pigs in body armor and placed them in a Humvee simulator, in open fields and in a closed room and subjected them to varying degrees of explosions at a research laboratory in a location researchers declined to disclose."

The explosions "ranged in intensity," according to military researchers, "wounding some of the pigs and killing others."

The point? To "study the link between roadside bomb blasts and brain injury." Roadside bombs, after all, are the "top killer of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Senseless pig killing aside, there's a perverse irony to this story, which is that the Pentagon only recently acknowledged that, as USA Today reports, "up to 360,000 veterans ... may have suffered brain injuries" known as "blast-induced neurotraumas." Until last month, the Department of Defense was too busy claiming all those soldiers were merely suffering from "mild concussions," or entirely imaginary ailments, as AlterNet contributor Nora Eisenberg wrote a few weeks back. So it comes as a bit of a surprise that military scientists spent the better part of last year trying to understand blast-induced brain injuries at all.

So what were their conclusions? Well, for one thing, "body armor does not worsen brain injury," researchers found, a statement that would seem to be masquerading as common sense were it not for the military's apparent concern that armor might "deflect the force of blasts towards the head." (It doesn’t.) Not surprisingly, pigs without body armor "died from blasts within 24 to 48 hours, while those with armor survived 'significantly higher blasts,'" according to Jan Walker, a spokeswoman for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, which conducted the study.

A visit to the DARPA website -- Powered by Ideas! -- makes no mention of its exploding pig research; the news page instead features its work on "game-changing cyber-innovation" and "next-generation academics" and other tech-genius sounding protjects. But Col. Geoffrey Ling, who led the slaughter research, defends its value, telling USA Today that "pigs are good subjects because their brains are more similar to human brains than those of rats.” (Which is confusing, given that rats were also used as exploding test subjects.)

Anyway, according to Walker, the Department of Defense "complied with policies that ensure that a minimal number of animals were used in the testing and that they were treated humanely at all times."

That is of course until they strapped the swine in body armor (or not) and blew them up, causing them to suffer bloody injuries or slow agonizing deaths -- all on taxpayers' dime!

Animal rights activists, who have long decried the cruel use of pigs in military experiments, are understandably critical of this latest round of violent animal testing. Martin Stephens, vice president for animal research issues at the U.S. Humane Society called on the Pentagon to stop its research on pigs, asking,"Is this the best they can do after several years of losing soldiers to roadside bombs?"

Apparently it is, according to the military. A fresh round of testing will begin later this year.

The Air Force Experiments

PETA has obtained sickening video footage of another series of Taser experiments, which were funded by the Pentagon's Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate (JNLWD) through the Department of Defense (DoD). The JNLWD commissioned the Air Force Research Laboratory to "evaluate the behavioral effectiveness" of Taser's products at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas.

Here are the chilling details of one Taser experiment on 11 pigs:

Each pig was initially exposed to the output of one of five randomly selected TASER-like devices for 15 seconds. There was a minimum rest period of 45 hours between succeeding exposures .... The initial exposures were accomplished while the pigs were pressing a panel for a food reward. After the second exposure, independent of the devices they were exposed to, the pigs refused to approach the bar and food well. Therefore, the test chamber was reconfigured; the panel press apparatus and food well were replaced with a bowl that contained food. After the third exposure, the pigs refused to approach the food bowl and vigorously resisted entering the test chamber.

Changing the rules of war

Palestinians pray next to the bodies of seven members
of the Salha family who were killed during Israel's attacks
on the Gaza Strip, 9 January. (Wissam Nassar/MaanImages)

The extent of Israel's brutality against Palestinian civilians in its 22-day pounding of the Gaza Strip is gradually surfacing. Israeli soldiers are testifying to lax rules of engagement tantamount to a license to kill. One soldier commented: "That's what is so nice, supposedly, about Gaza: You see a person on a road, walking along a path. He doesn't have to be with a weapon, you don't have to identify him with anything and you can just shoot him."

What is less appreciated is how Israel is also brutalizing international law, in ways that may long outlast the demolition of Gaza.

Since 2001, Israeli military lawyers have pushed to reclassify military operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip from the law enforcement model mandated by the law of occupation to one of armed conflict. Under the former, soldiers of an occupying army must arrest, rather than kill, opponents, and generally must use the minimum force necessary to quell disturbances.

While in armed conflict, a military is still constrained by the laws of war -- including the duty to distinguish between combatants and civilians, and the duty to avoid attacks causing disproportionate harm to civilian persons or objects -- the standard permits far greater uses of force.

Israel pressed the shift to justify its assassinations of Palestinians in the occupied territories, which clearly violated settled international law. Israel had practiced "targeted killings" since the 1970s -- always denying that it did so -- but had recently stepped up their frequency, by spectacular means (such as air strikes) that rendered denial futile.

Former US President Bill Clinton charged the 2001 Mitchell Committee with investigating the causes of the second Palestinian uprising and recommending how to restore calm in the region. Israeli lawyers pleaded their case to the committee for armed conflict. The committee responded by criticizing the blanket application of the model to the uprising, but did not repudiate it altogether.

Today, most observers -- including Amnesty International -- tacitly accept Israel's framing of the conflict in Gaza as an armed conflict, as their criticism of Israel's actions in terms of the duties of distinction and the principle of proportionality betrays. This shift, if accepted, would encourage occupiers to follow Israel's lead, externalizing military control while shedding all responsibilities to occupied populations.

Israel's campaign to rewrite international law to its advantage is deliberate and knowing. As the former head of Israel's 20-lawyer International Law Division in the Military Advocate General's office, Daniel Reisner, recently stated: "If you do something for long enough, the world will accept it. The whole of international law is now based on the notion that an act that is forbidden today becomes permissible if executed by enough countries ... International law progresses through violations. We invented the targeted assassination thesis and we had to push it. At first there were protrusions that made it hard to insert easily into the legal molds. Eight years later, it is in the center of the bounds of legitimacy."

In the Gaza fighting, Israel has again tried to transform international law through violations. For example, its military lawyers authorized the bombing of a police cadet graduation ceremony, killing at least 63 young Palestinian men. Under international law, such deliberate killings of civilian police are war crimes. Yet Israel treats all employees of the Hamas-led government in the Gaza Strip as terrorists, and thus combatants. Secretaries, court clerks, housing officials, judges -- all were, in Israeli eyes, legitimate targets for liquidation.

Israeli jurists also instructed military commanders that any Palestinian who failed to evacuate a building or area after warnings of an impending bombardment was a "voluntary human shield" and thus a participant in combat, subject to lawful attack. One method of warning employed by Israeli gunners, dubbed "knocking on the roof," was to fire first at a building's corner, then, a few minutes later, to strike more structurally vulnerable points. To imagine that Gazan civilians -- penned into the tiny Gaza Strip by Israeli troops, and surrounded by the chaos of battle -- understood this signal is fanciful at best.

Israel has a lengthy history of unpunished abuses of international law -- among the most flagrant its decades-long colonization of the West Bank. To its credit, much of the world has refused to ratify Israel's violations. Unfortunately, our government is an exception, having frequently provided diplomatic cover for Israel's abuses. Our diplomats have vetoed 42 UN Security Council resolutions to shelter Israel from the consequences of its often illegal behavior.

We must break that habit now, or see international law perverted in ways that can harm us all. Our government has already been seduced to follow, in Afghanistan and elsewhere, Israel's example of targeted killings. This policy alienates civilians, innocently killed and wounded in these crude strikes, and deepens the determination of enemies to harm us by any means possible.

We do not want civilian police in the United States to be bombed, nor to have anyone "knock on our roofs." For our own sakes and for the world's, Israel's impunity must end.

Death squad leader ‘was top CIA agent’

.
A halálosztagok vezetője
a CIA csúcs ügynöke volt
.

The late President Milosevic's secret police chief and organiser of Serb death squads during the genocidal ethnic cleansing of disintegrating Yugoslavia was the United States' top CIA agent in Belgrade, according to the independent Belgrade Radio B92.
The claim that from 1992 until the end of the decade, Jovica Stanisic, head of Serbia's murderous DB Secret Police, was regularly informing his CIA handlers of the thinking in Milosevic's inner circle has shocked the region. Stanisic is said to have loyally served his two masters for eight years.

Vukovar, 1991

He is facing war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court at The Hague.
In the terrifying years of Yugoslavia's internecine wars, he acted as the willing "muscle" behind Milosevic's genocidal campaigns in Croatia, Kosovo and Bosnia, including Sebrenica.
According to the charges he faces, Stanisic was "part of a joint criminal enterprise that included former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic and other Serbian politicians".
Dermot Groome, The Hague's chief prosecutor, has specifically accused him of sending in the Serb Scorpion and Red Beret death squads into the states seeking independence from Belgrade. Stanisic has pleaded not guilty.
Like in a Cold War spy thriller, Serbia's secret police chief met his CIA handlers in safe houses, parks and boats on the river Sava to betray his master's action plans. He provided, it is claimed, information on the where abouts of Nato hostages, aided CIA operatives in their search for Muslim mass graves and helped the US set up secret bases in Bosnia to monitor the implementation of the 1995 Dayton peace accord.
This has raised awkward questions for Washington. With Stanisic providing chapter and verse of the genocidal slaughter of Croats, Bosnians and Albanians from the early 1990s, should President Clinton have cut a deal with Milosevic at Dayton, Ohio, ending the Bosnian war on such equitable terms for the Serbs?

Vukovar, 1991

Or, using Stanisic's evidence, should the Americans not have unmasked Milosevic and Radovan Karadzic, the then head of Republika Srpska, as genocidal war criminals and demanded their surrender?
From his prison cell at The Hague, Stanisic countered the charges facing him with an aide memoir portraying himself as "a person who had sought to moderate Milosevic and had done a great deal to moderate the crisis".
In an unusual move, the CIA has submitted classified documents to the court that confirm Stanisic's "undercover operative role in helping to bring peace to the region and aiding the agency's work. He helped defuse some of the most explosive actions of the Bosnian war."In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, William Lofgren, his original CIA recruiter and handler, now retired, said: "Stanisic provided valuable information from Milosevic's inner circle. But he never took money from the CIA, worked with the agency on operations or took steps that he would have considered a blatant betrayal of his boss.

Mass grave, Vukovar, Ovcara, Croatia

"Thus the judges at The Hague are having to judge a man who allegedly sent the Scorpion death squads to Srebrenica to "deal" with men and boys fleeing the UN-protected Muslim enclave, while working with the CIA trying to end Milosevic's ethnic wars.
The way the CIA apparently viewed their Belgrade "asset" is revealed in an interview with Balkan Insight, a little known south-east European publication.
The emerging picture is a quaint reflection from a hall of mirrors. Greg Miller of the Los Angeles Times, writing about the links between the CIA and the Serb secret police chief, is quoted as saying: "As I said in the LAT story, the CIA do not see Stanisic as a choirboy. When you talk to people who work in espionage, this is often the case.
"Because of the nature of that job, of that assignment, they are working with people who do not have unblemished records, it would be difficult for them to be effective if they only worked with people who had unblemished records."
People in Belgrade who have been following the career of Jovica Stanisic would say that this was a guy who was an expert in his field; he was ahighly-trained and highly-effective spy. His motivation may have been tha the wanted to know what the United States was up to.
"He did not believe that Milosevic was taking the country in the right direction - so he wanted to influence events. He saw himself as an important guy who could pull strings behind the scenes to make things happen in Belgrade.
"Stanisic apparently did so on his own terms, while trying to remain a loyal Serb. He did not succeed. Now he is having to account for his actions as Milosevic's loyal lieutenantat The Hague.

Baranyai András: Aki bújt, aki nem...

.
Erre persze mindenki kiakadt...fasiszta, náci, usztasa, antiszemita, stb, stb. Mind-mind olyan jelző, amelyeket azokra kiáltanak, akik felemelik a szavukat a cionisták bűntettei, agressziói ellen.

A pénz nagy úr! De még nincs vége!
A harcnak folytatódnia kell! Mert így nem érhet véget! Mi, akiknek fontos a palesztinok sorsa, ne tágítsunk!

Palesztin elnyomottak! Az Úr segítse harcotokat!

Gaza massacres

.
Most of the victims of the massive Israeli onslaught of the occupied Gaza Strip have yet to be identified today as more than 100 air strikes killed and dismembered more than 225 Palestinians in Gaza.

Ongoing coverage

The more than 225 dead are thought to include police officers who were attending a graduation ceremony, school children heading home after a day of study, and other Gazans killed without warning as they were conducting their normal business. The death toll will most likely rise as corpses are recovered from the rubble of destroyed buildings and the critically injured die of their wounds. Many will likely die because Gaza's hospitals -- already chronically short of medicines and supplies due to the Israeli siege -- are unable to cope with the scale of the catastrophe.

In Israel, where the fate of the Gaza Strip has become part of politicking as the country gears up for an election, leaders blamed Hamas for the carnage and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert cynically appealed, "to the people of Gaza, you are not our enemy." While the other three members of the so-called International Quartet for Middle East Peace criticized what they called Israel's "excessive" use of force, the US refrained from doing so. White House spokesperson Gordon Johndroe stated from Texas, where President George W. Bush was presently vacationing: "Hamas' continued rocket attacks into Israel must cease if the violence is to stop."

The day's rising death toll was the highest in the territory since it was occupied by Israel during the 1967 War. Although Israel unilaterally withdrew its illegal settler population from the Gaza Strip in 2005, it remained the occupying power as it controlled the borders, sea and airspace, as well as the population registry, and regularly carried out sonic booms over the area, terrorizing the population. Israeli forces have also frequently carried out extrajudicial executions of Palestinian activists in Gaza, killing scores of bystanders as well.

Gaza hospitals were unable to cope with the situation as Israel's closure of the Gaza Strip for a year and a half has prevented the importing of medical supplies and equipment. As the morgues filled to capacity, corpses lined the hallways of Gaza hospitals. Hospitals were forced to turn away many of the injured due to the lack of space and supplies.

The massive air strikes came after a food crisis broke out in Gaza, as Israel's banning of imports into the Strip have depleted stocks of flour and cooking gas, causing some bakeries -- the few still in operation -- to resort to baking bread made out of animal feed. On 18 December, the United Nations agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) was forced to stop its food aid delivery to 750,000 refugees in the Gaza Strip.

These measures of collective punishment are resulting in "the breakdown of an entire society," according to economist Sara Roy, who asks in a commentary published recently by The London Review of Books, "How can keeping food and medicine from the people of Gaza protect the people of Israel?"

The devastating attack on Gaza was described as "willful killing" by leading Palestinian human rights and civil society organizations, and therefore constitute "a war crime." The organizations stated: "Both the time and location of these attacks also indicate a malicious intent to inflict as many casualties as possible with many of the police stations located in civilian population centers and the time of the attacks coinciding with the end of the school day resulting in the deaths of numerous children."

The assault was met with loud calls for a boycott of Israel, including a boycott appeal from by the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee, which stated on the day of the massacres: "Israel seems intent to mark the end of its 60th year of existence the same way it has established itself -- perpetrating massacres against the Palestinian people. In 1948, the majority of the indigenous Palestinian people were ethnically cleansed from their homes and land, partly through massacres like Deir Yassin; today, the Palestinians in Gaza, most of whom are refugees, do not even have the choice to seek refuge elsewhere. Incarcerated behind ghetto walls and brought to the brink of starvation by the siege, they are easy targets for Israel's indiscriminate bombing."

195 áldozata eddig a cionista légitámadásnak

.
A sebesültek számát 300-ra becsülik, állítólag életét vesztette Gáza város rendőrfőnöke is. A zsidó állam kész a támadások kibővítésére.
A cionista légierő csapások összehangolt sorozatát mérte szombaton a Hamász Gázai övezeti épületeire, írja a Haarec. Állítólag életét vesztette Taufík Dzsaber, Gáza város rendőrfőnöke is.

Szemtanúk szerint a cionista harci gépek két hullámban hajtották végre megtorló akciójukat, legalább harminc rakétát lőttek ki a különböző célpontokra. A BBC úgy tudja, hogy amerikai tervezésű F-16-os vadászbombázók vettek részt a csapásban. Televíziós tudósítások utcákon heverő holttesteket mutattak, és sebesülteket, amint a zavarodott mentősök elszállítják őket.
A Haarec szerint 60 repülő támadott egyszerre 50 célpontra. A cionista hadsereg 100 kilőtt rakétáról számolt be, melyek 95 százaléka eltalálta célpontját.
Fekete füst terítette be a város több részét

A Hamász egyik rendőrségi szóvivője a területet kormányzó mozgalom rádiójában arról számolt be, hogy az egyik Gáza városi rendőrségi épületegyüttesben éppen avatási ünnepséget tartottak az újonnan kiképzettek számára, amikor az épületet csapás érte. Egy hírügynökségi tudósító szerint támadás érte a gázai kikötőt is, a Hamász több objektuma súlyosan megrongálódott. A város több részét vastag fekete füst terítette be.

"Akkor a Hezbollah védelmi infrastruktúráját akarták megsemmisíteni, ennek sincs semmi köze a tüzérségi támadásokhoz. A zsidó állam győzelmet akar aratni, mi pedig azt várjuk az arab országoktól, hogy ne maradjanak csöndben" - idézi a Ynet el-Bas al-Dzsazírának adott nyilatkozatát.

Rózsa-Flores Eduardo: A Cionist-Chetnik conspiracy

.
"It’s easier to see a piece of wood in the other’s eyes than to see a timber in ours” (Few essential data of the discrete and hidden anti-Semitism of Serbs. Now days’ embracement between cionists and Serbs. Or the cooperation between the weak minded victims* of yesterday and the evil of all times.)
*euphemism: The yesterdayers disintegrate. Their descendants become businessmen.

Vinkovci is a typical Slavonian (East Croatia) city, a few kilometers from Osijek to the south. A patrol of the Croatian National Guars arrested three Serbs. One of my acquaintances gets to know from the guards barrack that I have my lunch in the city’s only decent hotel, comes to me. “Come with me quickly”-whispers to my ear, so the colleges I lunch with at the same table can’t overhear. - "We’ve captured a big trophy.” We arrived running to ‘Mehanizacija’ building in Jelacic street, where a timber company operated not so short time ego, now are the barracks located. The three prisoners lay on the ground in the company’s inner courtyard opposite to the garages. One of them is the city’s previous communist police chief. He’s been accused to have shot at the CNG watchman-site with a telescope-rifle and injured a Croatian. Substantial beatings can be seen on the bodies of the three Serbians. Blood’s oozing from the eldest mouths’. It’s raining, the water mixed with his blood gathers around his body in a puddle. He is unconscious. As I look up my eyes rest on the picture of Ante Pavelic being hang on to one of the garages’ door. The time, than, was August, 1991.

Ante Pavelic was a "Poglavnik", a leader of the Croatian Ustasi Revolutionary Movement. The Movement was established in 1929 by Pavelic himself, who was a member and a representative of the Croatian Justice Party in the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) until than. The Croatian Justice Party itself was the oldest party in Croatia; it had been established in 1861 by Ante Starcevic then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today he is regarded as one of the venerated father of the country.
The word ustasa is coming from "ustati" (rebellion, insurgency). The word "ustasa" means therefore "insurgent". The movement of Pavelic copied Mussolini’s fascist movement of Italy, its tactics became “eyes for eyes tooth for tooth”, ‘for terror the answer must be terror’ precept was.
In 1932, the ustasi revolted without any success in Lika, although they were successful to kill the king of Yugoslavia, Alexander I. Karagyorgyevics in Marseille, France, later in 1934. The attempt was carried out by Macedon nationalists, who were helped and financed by their Croatian counterparts. (It is not proven even today, that the plotters were preparing themselves for the assassination attempt with the than Hungarian authorities’ knowledge and support in Jankapuszta, what lays south-west in Hungary.)
A few years earlier, on the 6th of January, 1929, the king of Yugoslavia, Alexander I. Karagyorgyevics disbanded the (Yugoslavian) Parliament, likewise suspended the Constitution and all the political parties. The king established dictatorship in Yugoslavia and at the same time used its full dictatorial powers against the Croatian resistance. The Great Depression of 1929-1933 caused tremendous havoc in the social-economic life of Yugoslavia (of what Croatia was a part since 1919) as well and brought about a total social and economic collapse in Croatia itself. The social and economic collapse thus prepared the ground, and it became a very fertile ground for the social-fascist propaganda that it pointed to Belgrade (capital of than Yugoslavia) as the originator of all of the problems that the Croatian people must endure.
We arrived to April, 1941. The Kingdom of Yugoslavia on 17th of the same month capitulates before the Axis Powers…after 11 days of armed resistance. On 10th of April the Independent Croatian State (NDH) is being proclaimed in Zagreb (capital of Croatia), one week before the capitulation of Yugoslavia. (One more data: on 11th of April when the units of the Hungarian Defense Forces marches in to Delvidek (Bacska-Banat), Yugoslavia is being ‘de jure’ in a state of non existence. Nothing more can be said about the legend of perfidy.)

It’s very clear to me that today no-one can negate that fact that the establishment of the NDH reflected the political will of the majority of the Croatian people. If we have any problems with this regime it can’t be regarded from a legal point of view. The tragedy inheres in the inflexible attitude of the "Poglavnik", in the despotism of the ‘leader’ firstly; on the other hand it lays in the unrestricted brutality that was supported by the presence of the units of the German and Italian Armies that were everywhere and had the ominous ‘overlord’ status.
Thus the situation was created for the beginning of the terror which was underlined emotionally by the revenge and anger felt generally aiming primary and essentially towards the Serbs and partly towards those of the opponents of the regime as well.
We must stop for a moment here. As I have noted earlier, there’s no doubt of the responsibility of the government of Pavelic in the killings of Serbs, Gypsies and Jews. But it would not be correct neither historically nor morally to incriminate the Croatians only. Crimes were committed by all four sides in this conflict: the Germans and the Ustasi, the Serbian chetniks and the partisans as well.
Chetniks and German soldiers posing together in a village in Nazi-occupied Serbia.

The official anti-Jewish policy of the Serbs from April, 1941 wasn’t lesser in propaganda and execution than of the Ustasi’s.
The Yugoslav official propaganda - under exclusive Serbian control - laid great emphasis on to show the victimization of the Serbians during the WW II., audaciously bringing afore the vivid symbolism of Holocaust. They falsified the final number of war victims to the utmost; for example, they put the number of victims at the Jasenovac concentration camps (Croatia) at more than 750,000 and altogether 1.7 million war victims were presented by the “authentic” Serbian sources. This latter number was presented as well in the report to the Allied Reparations Committee in Paris, in 1948. However, it happens a very interesting turn in 1963 when the Yugoslavian government admits a more authentic and final number in correspondence with the Bundes Republik of Germany (BRD). The Yugoslavian government reports 950,000 victims altogether, meanwhile the German counterpart presses for a continually verifiable numbers as to be able to pay out directly the restitution to the victims ratified by the Parisian Peace Conference. In 1964, the Yugoslav authorities make a countrywide survey; the result is not altogether 600,000 victims for the Yugoslav’s claim for restitution. The data of that survey was handled over to the German government, after that it was designated to be a state secret. Let me state here something very clear! I would not want to play tasteless games with the numbers (of victims). My goal cannot be (and is not) to mock the horrors of war. However, by 1991, the Serbian propaganda became such an over exaggerated monstrosity that what I can do in this report at least is to deploy a line of information for the truth’ sake. I believe this information is genuine, even if it’s not detailed but is definitely showing a different picture that is presented by TANJUG (the official Yugoslavian news agency) or other malicious sources. As I have stated earlier, the Serbians present themselves to be the victim of WWII. Although, they are very silent about the methodical genocide they committed against other indigenous (Hungarians, Germans, Jews etc.) peoples that had lived in the territory of Yugoslavia during (and shortly after the finish of) the war.
For furthering their own propaganda goals they adopted the Holocaust occurred in neighboring Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina for this cynical deception, forgetting to mention the very Holocaust they, themselves have committed. The popular conventional recollection in Serbia considers the Serbs as the main victims of the WWII and accuses Croatia of deliberate genocide against them. This same popular conventional recollection seems to forget and at the same time negate that fact that the fascist government of Milan Nedic had great military and civil power also under the German occupation; that Serbia took part of the ‘endlösung’ of the Serbian Jews; that the Serbs themselves maintained concentration camps. Those Serbian historians, who advocate such theories allege that the persecutions of Serbian Jews can be debited only to the Germans and that, had started only at the occupation of Yugoslavia by the German Army. Nevertheless, this is a very transparent lie to have the truth hidden away. Well before the occupation came afore the very anti-Semitism of Serbians in full when the Serbian dominated government of Yugoslavia made into laws the restriction of citizens of Jewish ancestry to participate in higher education and to have trading license. One year later in the occupied Belgrade opened the Great Anti-Freemasonry Exhibition which unveiled the conspiracy of the Jewish-Communist-Freemasonry’s aim to subjugate the world. The exhibition had a great effect in having the population of the capital to visit it in huge numbers. Newspapers, such as Obnova (Reviving) and the Nasa Borba (Our Struggle) stated that the Jews are the ancient enemy of the Serbs and the Serbs should not wait fort he Germans to begin with the extermination of the Jews. An article in the Obnova “Struggle for the purity of the race” pointed out that “Jews wouldn’t be pharmaciers, lawyers and judges anymore in Serbia.”

Following the German occupation of Yugoslavia, the Serbian government was led by Milan Acimovic for a temporarily period between April and August, 1941. He was then followed by general Milan Nedic, previously Secretary of Defense who cooperated closely with the Nazis. One of the ministers of the government of Nedic, Mihaljo Olcan stated: “Serbia must admit that we were the only occupied country as to having compared it to others that were able to establish law and order by using our own defense forces”. Nedic created the Serbian State Police (SSP) as part of the Serbian State Security with the approval of Nazis. SSP was put under the command of Dragomir "Dragi" Jovanovic, who worked previously for the Municipality of Belgrade. The membership of SSP accounted 20,000 as opposed with the German police force numbering 3,400, in Serbia. The invitation of recruiting to be a member of SSP stated out that ‘the blood of the potential members of SSP must not be tainted with neither Jewish nor gypsies’ blood’. The second person in the leadership of Serbs after Nedic was the fascist ideologue, Dimitrije Ljotic. Ljotic had established the Serbian Fascist Party years earlier before the German occupation. He organized the Serbian Voluntary Legions which primary aims were to hunt and arrest of Jews, gypsies and partisans for being able to execute them later on. The Serbian Orthodox Church supported openly the Nazis as well; many of its priests justified the prosecution of the Jews by using theological texts. In August, 1941 approximately 500 prominent Serbians signed a ‘Call to the Serbian Nation’ petition in which they called upon the Serbians to obey to the authority of Nazis. The first three signatures were of the Orthodox Church’s bishops. On the 20th of 1942, the provisory leader of Saint Synod of the Orthodox Serbian Church Josip metropolitan officially forbade to christianize Jews out in to orthodoxy, thus inhumanly blocked the way of saving the lives of Jews. Let’s add to it: this inhuman act on part of Josip metropolitan pleased the Nazis to the utmost.

We arrived at August, 1942, when Dr. Harald Tuner, the Chief of the Serbian Civil Service could state: "Serbia is the only country where the Jewish question has been solved.” In the very same statement Dr Turner had emphasized that “the success can be attributed to the help of Serbians!” And the numbers: 93% of the Jewish inhabitance of Belgrade and 94% of the Serbian Jewish population were exterminated with the contributing help of the Serbian government, of the Serbian Orthodox Church, of the Serbian State Police and of the Serbian people.
Let’s leave the past behind and let’s come back to the present. It is most tragic in the present that there can be found very little contrast between past and present in the Serbian history. It seems that cynicism of the Serbian propaganda is part of their traditional character. In January and February, 1992, many Jewish newspapers in the United States published a gruesome and fully detailed article from a Dr Klara Mandic, Madam Secretary of the Serbian-Jewish Friendship Association about the fate of an old Jewish woman, Ankica Konjuk, who was brutally murdered by rightwing Croatians in September, 1991. To show this “act” of brutality as prime example of the Croatian anti-Semitism, doctor Mandic had finished off her article with a question: “who is going to be next?” Nevertheless, let’s look at the essential facts!
1./ The Serbian-Jewish Friendship Association is created by the Serbian government for propaganda zeal.
2./ This organization is acknowledged by not one legitimate Jewish organization.
3./The Serbian-Jewish Friendship Association consist only a handful of Serbian Jews when at the same time its membership list has more than a thousand names.
4./ Madam Konjuk, who was introduced in the article as the first Jewish victim of the war, happened to be a 67 years old Croatian woman who was killed by the Serbs, together with an other 240 civilian victims after the poorly armed Croatian defenders left the city. Honest eyewitnesses proved our statement to be true. Within the eyewitnesses can be found the neighbouress of Madame Konjuk who took an official oath also in line with what truly happened in Petrinja city, south to Zagreb. This statement was supplemented by the declarations of the former prisoners of a detention camp under Serbian control at Petrinjacai around Glina, according which 240 persons were slaughtered and buried into mass graves after Petrinja was captured by the chetnicks and units of the Yugoslavian Defense Forces.

I guess, we can’t wonder about what Vojislav Seselj (then a member of the Serbian Parliament; today a prisoner of the International War Crimes Tribunal in Hague charged with war crimes; the leader of the terrorist band of “White Eagle”; the “vojvoda” of the chetniks and chairman of the ultranationalists Serbian Radical Party which was then the second biggest party in Serbia, after the Socialist party) declared: “We do not want to see any foreigners in our territory and shell fight for our just borders. The Croatians leave either voluntarily or they shell be exterminated.”

Seselj
Let’s go back again to those events that are already history. After WWII., the regime of Tito had pursued vigorously everything in the tiniest detail that was Croatian, including the bishop of Zagreb, Alojzie Speniac. (Alojzie Speniac was named later on, as the first bishop to Croatia by Pope Pius XII.) Alojzie Speniac got sentenced to 16 years in prison. The charge laid against him was that he had harbored many ustasies in the cellar of the Archiepiscopal Palace, in Zagreb. It was leniently “forgotten” that he had preached many times against the prosecution of Serbians and Jews from the pulpit of the Archiepiscopal Palace during the very time of Pavelic Poglavnik. He was charged himself to be an ‘ustasi’ as well. Just as more than 1000 priests who had gotten murdered during the communist purging period.

The entire Croatian people were accused for the next 46 years that they were genetically to be ‘ustasi’. This accusation was repeated openly by “vojvoda” Seselj too at a session of the Serbian Parliament in 1991.

The very days of the Holocaust have begun to recede in the distance just as the days of summer and autumn of 1991. Today, like the fungus opening out from the soil, more and more interestingly named and subtled structures are being organized in the Western world. Ultra rightist cionists and Serbian organizations are being established in the United States, in Canada and in many more Western-European states for one goal: to install fear into the public by vehemently pointing to the danger of the spread of Islam. The top of the Turkish “spear” would be Kosova and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Supposedly, there, the fanaticized jihad fighters gather who, as in the times of pharaohs or Herodias would cut off the heads of the unlucky European babies of Serbians and Jews. And, as always, the Serbians view themselves as who shall have to save the world – from the enemy of the Serbs. If one must cooperate with the “most repulsive race” (D. Ljotic), well, why not; and business is business, thinks the cionists from his side. And the murderers of yesterday and the political dialers of today shake hands.

Although, who will imagine what will be the consequences of this marriage of Frankenstein magnitude?

A muszlimok szemében viszont a kutya tisztátalan állat.

A rendőrség különleges alakulatai közben folytatják a kutatást. A minap a dél-szerbiai Jastrebac hegység egy részét fésülték át, a Krusevactól Nis és Prokuplje felé eső területeket. Ugyanakkor belgrádi helyszíneken is megjelentek a különleges rendőralakulatok tagjai. Több katonai és polgári létesítményt is átvizsgáltak szerte Szerbiában.

Mindenesetre a minap maga Vladimir Vukcevic, a háborús bűncselekmények ügyében illetékes szerbiai ügyész jelentette ki, hogy várhatólag hamarosan letartóztatják a boszniai szerb hadsereg volt parancsnokát. Szerinte a körözött valószínűleg Szerbiában rejtőzködik.

Coalition air strikes kill 76 Afghan civilians

.
KABUL (AFP) — A US-led coalition military operation in western Afghanistan on Friday killed 76 civilians, including 50 children and 19 women, the Afghan interior ministry said.

The coalition confirmed it carried out an operation that included air strikes in the western province of Herat but said 30 Taliban rebels were killed only and said it knew of no civilian deaths.

The Afghan defence ministry meanwhile gave yet another toll -- five civilians and 25 rebels dead. It was impossible to independently verify what happened in volatile Shindand district, but the conflicting reports highlight the difficulty in establishing facts in the mounting clashes between troops and rebels.

"Seventy-six people, all civilians and most of them women and children, were martyred during the operation by coalition forces in Shindand district of Herat province," the ministry said in a statement. The dead were "19 women, seven men and the rest children all under 15 years of age," it said.

"The interior ministry, while expressing its profound regret because of this incident which happened by accident, has sent a delegation of 10 people to the area and more details will be announced once the investigation is completed," the statement said. If the death toll is confirmed it would be one of the highest for civilians in the battle to fight the extremist Taliban, who were ousted during a US-led invasion in 2001.

The ministry said an unknown number of civilians were also wounded, with some of them in a critical condition. The police chief for western Afghanistan, Akramuddin Yawer, had also said 76 people were killed in the incident and 15 houses were destroyed in strikes. "Taliban are included but their number is unknown," he said.

But the coalition said 30 insurgents were killed in clashes and air strikes that followed an ambush on Afghan National Army (ANA) and coalition troops as they were going to arrest a Taliban commander. "The ANA and coalition forces killed 30 insurgents," it said, adding a "known" Taliban commander was among the dead. Two civilians were wounded. "No other civilian or friendly casualties were reported," the coalition said.

Asked about the ministry statement, US First Lieutenant Nathan Perry told AFP: "I definitely do not have any reports of a large amount of civilian casualties -- and we don't have any reports of civilian casualties at all." In Washington, a Pentagon spokesman could not account for the Afghan interior ministry claims, saying "the coalition remains confident in our reports that were released earlier today."

The Afghan army said five civilians -- three women and two children -- had died. "Planes bombed the area and in the result 25 Taliban were killed including two famous commanders," defence ministry spokesman General Mohammad Zahir Azimi told AFP separately. "Unfortunately, five civilians were killed and one woman and a boy were wounded."

Military operations and rebel attacks have increased in the summer with a Taliban-led insurgency growing steadily despite the efforts of nearly 70,000 international troops.

It has been a particularly bloody week for international troops with 10 French soldiers killed Monday in the deadliest ground fighting for the foreign forces since the 2001 ouster of the Taliban that brought international troops to the country.

Eight foreign soldiers including three Poles and three Canadians died in various incidents on Wednesday, most of them in bomb strikes. Another was killed in a bomb blast in eastern Afghanistan Friday, the coalition said in a statement that gave few details. Most soldiers in the east are American.

In other violence, police in the southern province of Uruzgan said that 11 Taliban were killed overnight after they attacked Afghan police and soldiers. And two Afghan soldiers were killed in Badghis province Friday when their vehicles hit a bomb, an Afghan army officer said.

A civilizált nyugati megszállok meggyilkoltak hetvenhat civilt

.

"Civil áldozatokról nincs tudomásom" - mondta Nathan Perry, a parancsnokság szóvivője.

Az afgán lakosság körében egyre növekvő elégedetlenséget gerjesztenek a külföldi katonák harci tevékenységének civil áldozatairól szóló hírek. Július közepén egy esküvői menetre hullottak bombák, a násznép 47 tagja esett halálos áldozatául az amerikai légitámadásnak a kelet-afganisztáni Nangarhar tartományban.
